BIBLE DEXTERITY GAMES

Track and Field

How the games are played

60 METRES DASH -- NO BIBLE IS REQUIRED

The first person to correctly answer two questions is the champion overcomer. Each must move one step forward after answering correctly OR one step backward for an incorrect answer. The game Supervisor will read a Bible text then give the chapter and the text or verse number.

The contenders must state the book from which the text is read.

100, 200, 400, 800 METRES – SPRINT AND RELAYS

  1. A maximum of nine (9) persons may participate in a single event. Each person must possess a Bible for the sprint, and each team must have one bible for the relays.
  2. The first person to get two (2) correct answers making no mistakes wins. Each correct response allows a forward step. A backward step is taken for an incorrect answer.

FOR 100 METRES: Questions will be taken alternatively from:

1. The Pentateuch - Genesis to Deuteronomy

2. The Gospels and Acts – Matthew to Acts of the Apostles

FOR 200 METRES: Questions will be taken alternatively from:

1. The Pentateuch and Historical Books – Genesis to Esther

2. The Gospel to the Pauline Epistles – Matthew to 2 Thessalonians

FOR 400 METRES: Questions will be taken alternatively from:

1. The Pentateuch to the Poetic Books – Genesis to Song of Solomon

2. The Gospel to the Pastoral Epistles – Matthew to Jude

FOR 800 METRES: Questions will be taken alternatively from:

1. The Pentateuch to the Books of the Prophets – Genesis to Malachi

2. The Gospel to the Apocalypse – Matthew to Revelation

The supervisor will tell the book, chapter and verse in all these races. The contenders must find the texts and read. However, if a contender knows the text by memory, the text may be repeated even without opening the Bible. The contender would then move one step ahead.

The first eight (8) correctly read or repeated texts or any combination by the contender becomes the champion overcomer.

RELAYS – BIBLE IS REQUIRED

Relays may be 4 x 100; 4 x 200; 4 x 400; 4 x 800. Texts will be taken from the categories as in 100, 200, 400, 800 metre sprint races.

With Bible as baton, the supervisor will state the book, chapter and text number. The first to read or repeat correctly will place the Bible in the hand of the next partner. The team that completes first without error, is the winner. Whoever reads incorrectly is considered to have dropped the baton, and cannot be the Champion Overcomer.

TYPES OF RELAYS

Generational Relay:

  • Male only – according to age categories
  • Female only – according to age categories
  • Mixed – male and female of the same category

Four persons will participate on a relay team. All persons on each team must belong within its specified age group. This event will engage only those within their age categories. That is, Adventurers contend with Adventurers, Junior Youth contend with Junior Youth, etc.

Cross-generational or Classic Relay – to include male or female only – one from each category (Adventurer to Veteran). Texts may be taken from any scripture passage.

SUPERMIX – Relay includes 2 males and 2 females from selected categories. Texts may be used randomly from any scripture passage.

CROSS COUNTRY – OLD TESTAMENT

The whole church may participate. All texts must be repeated from the Old Testament. Whoever says a text that was already repeated falls out. The last male or female left in his or her participating category is the male or female winner in that category. The last person is the overcoming champion.

CROSS COUNTRY --NEW TESTAMENT

All texts must be repeated from the New Testament only. Game is played with rules of Cross Country Old Testament.

MARATHON

The whole church may participate. Texts may be repeated from anywhere in the Bible. However, similar texts found both in the Old and New Testament must be declared where they are taken from. Anyone that made no declarations, may not repeat that text again (e.g.) Matt 4:4. “Man shall not live by breath alone” may be said again if next time the repeater uses the quote from Deuteronomy.

NOTE CAREFULLY: CROSS COUNTRY AND MARATHON

The contenders can sing a bible verse instead of repeating one. This will allow them one bonus point to maintain their lifeline, in the event they make an error in the future.

HURDLES

Participants may be involved in 100, 200, 400, or 800 metre hurdles. THE HURDLES demand that participants declare the untold dimension.

100 METRES HURDLES

Game supervisor tells the Book of the Bible, tells the chapter but reads the text.

* Contender must tell the text number. Two correct answers without errors take you to the tape.

200 METRES HURDLES

Game Supervisor tells the book, reads the text . Contender must tell the chapter and text number. Four correct answers without error take you to the tape.

400 METRES HURDLES

The text number is given and read. Contender must tell the Book and chapter. Six (6) correct answers without error take you to the tape.

800 METRES HURDLES

The book is given and verse read. Tell the chapter and text number. Eight (8) correct answers without error take you to the tape.

Bible Mathematics

Aim

The aim of the game is to stimulate the mind to use the knowledge of mathematics to enjoy the study of the Holy Bible. Knowing God’s word can be done in a fun and exciting way through the integration of mental and spiritual development. Participants should develop greater association of the Bible with mathematics, and so mathematics can be approached with greater joy than with fear.

The game will have four levels of challenge so that all age groups can participate and feel comfortable with the challenge and the excitement it gives.

Level 1

Age Group: Adventurers (6-9 yrs)

Basis of Questions: Basic mathematical problems are given along with a list of books in the Bible and the number it falls in the Bible.

Level of Math: Simple Additions, Subtractions, Multiplication and Division

Level 2

Age Group: Pathfinders (10-14yrs)

Level of Questions: Primary school mathematical problems are given along with the Bible, for the participants to count the books and identify the number each book falls.

Areas of Math: Additions, Subtractions, Multiplication, Division and Fractions

Level 3

Age Group Guide (15 – 16yrs)

Level of Questions: Secondary school mathematical problems are given along with the Bible for the participants to count the books and identify the number each book falls and thus being able to find the text.

Level 4

Age Group: All age group capable of the challenge (preferably 14 and above)

Level of Questions: Secondary school mathematical problems are given without a Bible. The knowledge of the books of the bible is critical at this level. Participants must identify well known Bible Texts on different doctrinal areas in the Bible. Participants will be given the texts to memorize before the challenge. At the challenge each text will be given with a mathematical equation. Can you imagine not been able to say St. John 3:16 simply because you did not get the math right?

Framework of Game

How the game is played:

Participants will be given three mathematical problems to identify and read/repeat a Bible text. The first problem will be to identify the Book of the Bible, the second will be to identify the chapter of the book found in the first problem and the third problem will be used to identify the verse for the chapter found in the second problem. Participants will be told which testament the book is found.

Example
Problem 1: for an Old Testament Book 10 + 15 – 23 = _________

Problem 2: for the Chapter 18 + 2 + 5 – 5 = _________

Problem 3: for the Verse 4 x 1 x 2 = _________

Answer

The answer for the Old Testament Book is equal to 2, which would be Exodus (the second book of the Old Testament).

The answer for the Chapter of Exodus is 20

The answer for the Verse of Exodus 20 is 8

Therefore the first participant to find this verse is awarded the point after he/she reads or recites Exodus 20:8, which is “Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy.”
